Rush, rush, rush, everyone is in a hurry..... and all of this adds to stress levels, costing time and energy.
Stress isn’t always a bad thing for our emotional and physical wellbeing. Positive stress of short duration can aid success if it is managed effectively. Some people feel that they are at their most effective when under stress. They can achieve more if they are under pressure to meet deadlines or make important presentations. If it is also of short duration, negative stress is not always dangerous either.

However, long lasting negative stress is not always something that our bodies can cope with. Examples of some physical symptoms of longer lasting stress are: trembling or shakiness in the hands, stress headaches, sleeplessness, irregular heartbeat, shortness of breath, difficulties with concentration, listlessness, extreme moodswings and feeling exhausted. If this becomes chronic, there is also a chance of burnout.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), long lasting negative stress has become a “worldwide epidemic”. A quarter of employees in Germany suffer from mental fatigue and one in ten employees experience burnout. According to predictions by the WHO, by 2020 depression will be one of the major causes of incapacity for work.

Stress awareness European research by Krauthammer International of managers also indicates that they need to become more aware of the external factors that induce stress. The need for self-awareness can never be under estimated especially when people find themselves entering into a downwards spiral of stress related problems; at this time an awareness of individual emotional and spiritual ups and downs is essential. Nearly half of the interviewed managers have a limited understanding of their own needs here and who appreciated the potential dangers.
