Cognitive Respiratory based Desensitisation (CRD).
This is an effective and durable method for relieving the feelings caused by trauma and by burdensome life events. Many techniques have been developed in psychotherapy and the science of applied stress management. The primary purpose is to achieve, or at least to approach as far as possible, spiritual and physical stability. Examples of the various methods that have become fashionable are meditation, autogene training, muscle relaxation, biofeedbackmethods, visualising the ideal and techniques inducing hypnosis.

Professor P.B. Defares, Dr. J.C.G. de Swart, Dr. P. Grossmann, Dr. D. Brom, Dr. R.J. Kleber, Dr. O. van der Hart, Dr. C.J.E. Wientjes and others have been working together since the 1980’s to develop a new method for managing psychological trauma. This method is in technical terms known as Cognitive Respiratory based Desensitisation (or CRD for short) and aims to develop a relaxed state in the patient through optimalising breathing techniques. After this they are able to confront their trauma. In order to develop an an optimal breathing technique during this confrontation, the patient is supported by the same example breathing patterns used in the Respilex system. In the majority of cases the trauma is released in one to three treatment sessions.

Knowledge about the positive effects of optimal breathing on the most serious forms of stress has now also become an important part of the Respilex ‘know how’.
Forgetting traumatic experiences
A specific part of the CRD treatment methods is the exploration of the repressed ‘underlying’ psychological traumas of dramatic life events.

People are often suprised that negative experiences are forgotten or dropped from consciousness. The heart rhythm of the patient is closely followed through the therapy to aid with the detection.
