Up to a certain point, stress during pregnancy is a normal occurance.
Pregnacy is a special event. For some this causes a lot of stress; the most serious form of this can be post natal depression. It is well known that the process of giving birth can be successfully aided through good breathing technique. Obstetricians believe that this is significant. Obstetricians certainly believe that this is significant.

During labour and the process of giving birth, which can last for some considerable time, good breathing techniques can help by:
  • Reducing fear and tension, before and during the birth
  • Increasing the pain tolerance
  • Having a beneficial effect on the baby
In the time after the birth:
  • Helping to achieve calm and emotionally balanced acceptance of the events with the new born
  • Overcoming post natal depression
Deep breathing is also important for transporting blood from the brain. With shallow breathing there is a greater chance of blockage in the jugular vein (which acts as a drain for the brain).

zwangerschapSome women look forward to the birth (they have had more than enough of ‘being big’), others regret that a special period will soon be coming to an end. Research has shown that women are happier and worry less in the first month of pregnancy than in those months that pregancy was not achieved despite trying.
